Treated As God’s Children ​​ ​​ ​​​​ Hebrews 12:5-13

  • What are your experiences of being disciplined, or disciplining someone else?

  • When you think of “God’s discipline” what comes to your mind?

  • Read Hebrews 12:5-13. ​​ What are the “encouraging words” the author shares with the reader? ​​ Why is this encouraging?

  • What is the reader to remember in verse 7? ​​ How is this encouraging?

  • What is to be our response to God’s discipline (vs.9)? ​​ What does this look like?

  • What is the purpose and result of God’s discipline? (vs.10-11) ​​ How can you get beyond the pain of discipline and benefit from it?

  • Read verses 12-13. ​​ What do you think this means in light of God’s discipline? ​​ What would this look like in your daily life?

  • How does your response to God’s discipline in your life impact those who know you? ​​ 

  • What are some ways that God disciplines His children? ​​ Are we able to clearly know what is discipline and what are typical life’s consequences or even spiritual warfare? ​​ 

  • Read Psalm 94:12 – what is the emotion tied to discipline? ​​ Read 119:67 & 75. ​​ What does the Psalmist say is the benefit of discipline?

  • Prayer

    • Thank God for loving you as His child and demonstrating His love in discipline. ​​ 

    • Submit yourself to God’s working in your life.
