The Names Have Been Changed​​ 

to Proclaim the Blessing  ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​​​ Genesis​​ 17

 

  • Do you know some people who have changed their name? ​​ Why did they do it?

 

  • Read Genesis 17:1-8  ​​​​ Who does God tell Abram He is? ​​ What does this mean? ​​ 

 

  • Why did God change Abram’s name to Abraham? ​​ 

 

  • Read verses 9-14. ​​ What do you think about the sign​​ of the covenant​​ that God​​ has Abraham institute? ​​ Why this sign?

 

  • Read verse 15-22. ​​ God gives Sarai a new name. ​​​​ What is it and why did He do this?

 

  • Abraham still struggles with understanding how it would be that he would have a son. ​​ How does God respond to him?

 

  • Read verses 23-27. ​​ How did Abraham respond to God’s commands? ​​ How would you respond?

 

  • Read Romans 2:29;4:11-12. What insight is here?

 

  • Pray

    • Thank God for giving us new life in Christ and freeing us from the old covenant.

    • Pray that God will help you fully commit yourself to Him and fully follow His commands.

    • Pray for a change of heart in family members and friends who have not committed their lives to Christ.
