We Can Trust the Testimony of the Apostles, and the Prophecy of Scripture  2 Peter 1:16-21

  •  Think about it: When you trust someone, what are the ingredients that make that true?  How has your experience in other situations contributed to this?

  • Read 2 Peter 1:16-18.  Why do you think Peter states that “they” were not making up clever stories about the coming of Jesus?

  • Peter tells of his experience – Read Matthew 17:1-9.

  • How does Peter’s experience with Jesus at the Mount of Transfiguration prove that Jesus will come again?

  • Read 2 Peter 1:19-21.  What did Peter’s experience give him? (v.19)

  • What does Peter tell the believers to do, and what does He say this will bring to them?  Read Psalm 119:105.

  • How can we know that the writings of the prophets in the Scriptures can be trusted?

  • How does what Peter writes in verses 20-21 help you in having confidence in what is written in the Bible?

  • With this understanding, what do you do when you are confronted with Scripture passages that are difficult to understand?

  • Prayer:

    • Thank God for preserving the testimony of the apostles and for speaking to us clearly through the Bible.

    • Pray for someone you know who may struggle with confidence in the Word of God.

    • Pray that you may be an encouragement to other believers to trust God’s Word.
