Let the Spirit Control Your Mind

Romans 8:1-13

  • Read Romans 7:24-25. Tim Keller states that before Christ, we were in a battle that we cannot win. In Christ, we are in a battle we cannot lose. What are your thoughts on those statements?

  • Read Romans 8:1-4. How can Paul say with confidence that there is no condemnation? What is the condemnation we no longer have?

  • What does the Spirit do that the law of Moses was unable to do? What did Jesus do to make this possible?

  • Read Romans 8:5-8. What difference does the way we think make? How can we think in a way that leads to life? How do you apply this in your own life?

  • Read Philippians 4:8. What do you do when your mind is “stuck” on the wrong things? What do you do to keep your mind thinking the right thoughts?

  • Read Romans 8:9-11. How do we receive the Spirit of God? What does the Spirit do in our lives?

  • How are you impacted by the statement that “the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you”?

  • Read Romans 9:12-13. If we don’t have to follow our sinful nature, why do we? What is the result when we do?

  • How do we put to death the deeds of the sinful nature?

  •  Prayer: Thank God for setting you free from any condemnation. Give the Spirit full control in your life.
