Being Faithful to Jesus in​​ Our Family​​ Part 2 ​​ ​​​​ Colossians 3:16-21

 

  • Read​​ Colossians 3:1-15. ​​ What is Paul writing about in this section before our text for this week? ​​ What is the main idea?

  • Paul gives guidance to everyone before he gets specific about the different family roles. ​​ Read Colossians 3:16-17. ​​ What four things does he challenge them to do? ​​​​ How do these impact the way we live out our role in our family?

  • Read verse 18. ​​ What do you think of when you consider a wife being submissive to her husband? ​​ Is she the only one to have a submissive attitude? (See Ephesians 5:21) ​​ 

  • Should a wife do whatever her husband wants her to do? ​​ How is she to determine the boundaries? ​​​​ How does her being submissive impact the family?

  • Read verse 19. ​​ How are husbands to relate to their wives? ​​ See Ephesians 5:25.​​ What does this direct the husband to do and how can he do it?

  • Read verse 20. ​​ How does a child’s obedience to parents impact the family? ​​ See Deut. 5:16. What are the benefits? ​​ What are the consequences of not obeying? (See Proverbs 19:26; 20:20)

  • Read verse 21. ​​ How can a father aggravate a child? ​​ How can they avoid it? ​​ Read Eph. 6:4. How can you​​ discipline and avoid aggravation and discouragement?

  • Prayer

  • Ask God to help you and all in your family to live together in ways that please Him.
